A BRIEF HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
1922: A group of people formed a Baptist congregation which met in the "Sample Room" of the DeLeon Hotel (located on the corner of Main and Chestnut Streets in Ventura). The first advertised meeting of Sunday School was April 29, 1922. There were 41 charter members.
1923: The congregation called their first pastor, Mr. W.B. Pearson and moved to the Old City Hall Building.
1924: The first baptism service was held on March 25 at the Ventura River. Due to growth they moved again to the Lagomarsino Opera House on Santa Clara St. A building fund drive was launched.
1926: Moved into a newly constructed chapel at the intersection of Laurel and Santa Clara Streets.
1928: Plans were begun for a new sanctuary. Robert B. Stacy Judd of Hollywood was hired to draw the plans, supervise the work and oversee the remodeling of the chapel.
(The architectural design of this building made Mr. Judd famous.)
1929: Another building campaign launched.
1931: February 1 was ground breaking day for the new sanctuary.
1932: The first service was held in the new sanctuary on Easter Sunday with a Dedication Service following in the afternoon.
1944: Sanctuary mortgage was paid in full.
1949: We began broadcasting the evening service over KVEN.
1957: Five acres was bought from Thille Ranch on Mills Road for the construction of a new church campus.
1958: March30 was the groundbreaking service for the Mills Road site.
1959: Services began at the Mills Road location on Easter Sunday.
1960: The Fellowship Hall was dedicated on January 10.
1968: First Baptist Day School opened its doors.
1971: Ground was broken for our current Worship Center and Office Building.
1972: On Sunday, September 17, the first services were held in the new Worship Center.
1975: Our rose garden was planted.
1995: Broke ground on April 2 for the Family Life Center.
2004: The lot adjacent to the Office Building was purchased.
2008: The name was changed from First Baptist Church of Ventura to our d.b.a, Coastline Bible Church.
2009: The lot was officially paid off!
2011: Phase One lot renovations were completed and include volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, BBQ and play areas.
